A Funeral Service is a ceremony held to honour, remember, and celebrate the life of your loved one.
Funerals can vary greatly in form, depending on cultural, religion, and personal preferences.
(The cost of a celebrant is normally included in the disbursements from the Funeral Home you choose)
My Role as a Celebrant
- Meet with you and your family to talk about your loved one's life.
- Where this is not possible, a video meeting can be arranged.
- Discuss music choices for the service.
- This is normally three pieces of music, processional (entrance), reflection (a quiet time to pray or think back on your loved one), and recessional (exit).
- Discuss any poems, hymns, readings, prayers or other religious content that you would like.
- Discuss whether there are any family members or friends who would like to contribute to the service.
- I will assist in compiling a photo tribute if you choose to have one.
- I will write a unique and personal service script including the eulogy and tribute for your loved one.
- You will receive a copy of the script via email for your approval.
- You can ask for amendments right up until the day before the service.
- On the day, I will officiate at your loved ones Funeral Service.
- After the service, you will receive a presentation copy of the service script, this will also be emailed as a PDF, and also a Zip file of any photos used.
- You will be able to contact me throughout the whole process.
Key Elements of a Funeral Service
- Location: Funeral services can be held in various settings, including funeral homes, places of worship, chapels, gravesides, or family homes.
- Order of Service: The service usually follows a specific order, which might include prayers, readings, eulogies, hymns, or songs, depending on the traditions and the wishes of the family.
- Eulogy: A central component of many funeral services is the eulogy, where a Celebrant, member of the Clergy, family member, or friend speaks about the life, character, and accomplishments of your loved one.
- Religious Rites: If your loved one was religious, the service might include specific rituals or sacraments.
- Committal Service: Following the main funeral service, there may be a committal service, which takes place at the burial or cremation site. This is often a brief ceremony where final prayers or words are spoken before the body is laid to rest.
- Reception or Wake: After the funeral, it is common to have a reception or gathering where family and friends can share memories and offer condolences in a more informal setting.
A Funeral Service provides an opportunity for loved ones to mourn, reflect on the life of the person that has died, and offer support to each other during a time of loss.
